Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox broke ground today on a new 20,000-square-foot outpatient care center at the southeast corner of U.S. Route 30 and Owens Road in Mokena May 7.

Scheduled to open in September 2021, the single-story medical office building will provide urgent care services and physician offices to the community including the new home of Hedges Clinic. The future facility is the first phase of Silver Cross Hospital’s vision for a comprehensive medical campus in Mokena. The site has been master planned for additional services to be developed on an adjacent 5.6-acre parcel.

Friday’s groundbreaking comes right on the heels of Silver Cross achieving the “triple crown” for healthcare: a place on the Fortune/IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list, a 5-Star Rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and an A for Patient Safety by the Leapfrog Group – all at the same time. Less than 1 percent of the nation’s hospitals have achieved this level of excellence in patient safety, patient care, patient outcomes and patient experience.

Joining Silver Cross Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Ruth Colby at the groundbreaking were Mokena Mayor Frank Fleischer, Mokena Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Melissa Fedora, Hedges Clinic President Dr. Julie Limon and Dave Arnold, Executive Vice President of Irgens.

“At Silver Cross we’re always advancing and finding ways to better serve our communities,” Colby said. “We’re thrilled to partner with Irgens on this beautiful new facility that will bring needed urgent care services and physician offices to the residents of Mokena and surrounding areas. We look forward to opening and serving patients in the fall.”

“That’s just down the road from a new senior citizens’ complex we built, so this will be a perfect location to serve those residents,” Fleischer said, adding he was thrilled when Colby reached out last fall, expressing interest in expanding the hospital’s services to Mokena.

“This facility will bring in more than 100 people to the village daily in the Route 30 area,” he said. “This will really be a great service for all our residents.”

As the developer of the new medical office building, Irgens has overseen all elements of the design, entitlement and construction process and will provide professional property management services.

“Irgens is pleased to partner with Silver Cross Hospital on this strategic endeavor. Irgens’ experience and collaborative approach to healthcare development allowed Silver Cross to conceptualize a modern medical office building that will help them achieve their goal of providing the community with the best quality health care,” said Mark F. Irgens, CEO/Manager of Irgens.

Kahler Slater serves as the architect and Morgan/Harbour Construction is the general contractor. Financing is provided by Byline Bank.

This will be the second Urgent Care Center that Silver Cross Hospital has opened within the past year. In July 2020, Silver Cross introduced Silver Cross Urgent Care Center in Pavilion D on its New Lenox hospital campus.

In addition to the main hospital campus and other locations in New Lenox, Silver Cross also offers outpatient services in Homer Glen, Lemont, Joliet, Manhattan and Lockport.
